My friend Stephen + I were standing outside during the Red Ribbon Dinner @ Parkside on Monday (which was lovely) when we were accosted by probably 10 different kinds of hobos in the span of 5 minutes. it was interesting to notice they all put their own spin on “crazy”…

beggars- they are shameless, toothless and just approach you begging for things (money, a cigarette, and in some cases “checks or silver”)

entertainers- johnny UK in austin is a fine example. he travels with a guitar and entertains legions of drunks on 6th street. he asked us if we wanted to hear a diddy about the secret of life. i told him i already knew the secret (it’s glitter)

drunks- you’re probably thinking “aren’t they ALL usually drunk” but THAT is not what i mean. these are the hobos that want nothing from you, except to let you know they’re wasted. usually very merry

jokesters- self explanatory

this list is by no means comprehensive, feel free to let me know if i’ve left some out :)

you know it, i know it, the WHOLE TOWN knows it.

so, in celebration of my biggest accomplishment of the day (forcing myself in that wretched thing), i’m going to share with you the art of the 7 minute shower.

things you will need:

bagel bites

hatred of showers

lack of time (or some other motivating reason, though this seems to be the best)

you will have 10 minutes to prepare for this shower, while your oven is preheating

1. put the bagel bites in the oven, set the timer for 9 minutes

2. get in the shower, move as QUICKLY as possible, no time for “reflection” or anything extraneous… this is BUSINESS not pleasure

3. remember, if you’re in there LONGER than 9 minutes, your bagel bites will BURN

4. enjoy a delicious post-shower snack/reward

there are a few things that strike me as INTERESTING about this article

1. i thought WAL-MART was open 24 hours

2. ARE YOU SERIOUS? that might actually be the most ridiculous thing i have EVER read

it’s important to have priorities and i guess i have a certain amount of *respect* for their deal-seeking dedication. i personally can’t think of anything that i need badly enough from walmart to line up at 5 am, “sustain a cut” from ferocious deal-seekers while finishing my shopping, battle walmart crowds in general

EVERYONE REMEMBER: there is nothing you need badly enough from WALMART or ANYWHERE to TRAMPLE AND KILL A HUMAN BEING
